“A Day to Remember” airing on PBS

Oak Tree Productions and WVPT PBS teamed up to produce a “Road Trip to History” program honoring the Veterans of the Shenandoah Valley.

“A Day to Remember”will air on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 9 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2:30 p.m. on WVPT, PBS Harrisonburg.

“A Day to Remember” starts with the signing of the Armistice, which ended the War to end all Wars, World War I, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed Armistice Day for Nov. 11, 1919.

The people of the Shenandoah Valley and America, remember the heroism of those that served the valley and the nation. “A Day to Remember” takes a visit to memorials that honor Veterans in Martinsburg, Winchester, Berryville, Strasburg, Woodstock, Edinburg, Harrisonburg, Timberville, Dayton and Luray, ending with a celebration in Mount Jackson.

Interviews with several Valley Veterans appear in the program including Frank Buckles, the last surviving Veteran of WWI and Charles Ferguson a Valley veteran of three wars.

John Crim, owner of the Johnny Appleseed Restaurant and historian is honored for his years of providing free dinners for all Veterans every Veterans Day.

WWI and WWII photos of Valley Veterans taken by Valley photographer Hugh Morrison, Jr. are also included.
