Shepherd to present discussion forum and poetry reading by Dr. Temple Cone

Shepherd University will host a discussion forum led by Dr. Temple Cone on Friday, Nov. 2. The discussion forum, “Tangofugue: Experimenting with the American Ghazal,” will cover Cone’s recent work from 1:10 to 2 p.m. in room 164 of the Robert C. Byrd Center for Legislative Studies. Cone will give a poetry reading from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Robert C. Byrd Center for Legislative Studies auditorium.

Cone is associate professor of English at the United States Naval Academy where he teaches courses dealing with ecocriticism and ecological poetry, contemporary Irish poetry and political violence and creative writing (poetry). He received his Ph.D in English literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2005. Cone is the author of three books of poems: “No Loneliness” (2009), which won the FutureCycle Poetry Book prize; “The Broken Meadow” (2010), which won the Old Seventy Creek Press Poetry Series contest; and “That Singing” (2011).

The events are offered as part of the series Contemporary Poets at Shepherd and sponsored by Shepherd’s School of Arts and Humanities and a minigrant from the West Virginia Humanities Council.
