Shepherdstown School of Dance announces Nutcracker Ballet
The Shepherdstown School of Dance announces their 6th annual Nutcracker Performance at the Frank Arts Center at Shepherd University. Curtains will rise at 2 and 7 p.m. on Dec. 8, and 2 p. m. on Dec. 9. The performance coincides with Christmas in Shepherdstown festivities.
This year’s Nutcracker performance features students of Shepherdstown School of Dance, but also a large number of community members will be “party parents” in the opening act.
Two professional dancers will also be gracing the stage, including Kitty Clarke, contemporary modern dancer and founder of Goose Route Arts Collaborative, as Mouse King. Playing the part of the Cavalier will be Jordan Nelson of Chicago, who has trained with the Ballet Chicago, interned with royal ballet and is a dancer for the Suzanne Ferrell Dance Company.
Tickets are available at Shepherdstown School of Dance and Encore Apparel in Motion and are $13 in advance and $18 after Dec. 7. A portion of ticket sales will benefit Shepherdstown Elementary School and Shepherdstown Middle School PTA groups.
Shepherdstown School of Dance opened in 2003 and continues its dedication to provide a classical dance program for their students. Classes include ballet, pointe, tap, jazz/modern, Rommett Floor-Barre and pre-ballet. Students three and up are welcome to participate in classes.
