By Staff | Nov 30, 2012

The Potomac Valley Audubon Society will offer a special children’s event at the Cacapon State Park in Morgan County on Saturday, Dec. 8. The event will be for children ages 6-9. Participants will learn how to use Global Positioning System (GPS) devices to locate Geocaches in the park, and in the process learn how animals hunt for food in our forests.

The event will last from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Enrollment will be strictly limited to ensure that all children receive personal attention, and pre-registration is required.

To register or get more information go to the PVAS website at www.potomacaudubon.org or contact Ellen Murphy at 304-676-8739 or Ellen@PotomacAudubon.org.

This event is part of a new program, called “Outdoor Explore!”, which is intended to give youngsters a better understanding and appreciation of the natural world in a safe, supervised way. Its activities include hiking, exploration of different local habitats, plant and animal identification, and other natural science activities.

All sessions are aimed at children ages 6-9.

Jan Hummer, an experienced natural science educator, is leading each program session.

The program is being made possible by a grant from the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.
