Shepherd Foundation announces the Guy J. Frank Faculty Enrichment Fund for music

By Staff | Feb 8, 2013

The Shepherd University Foundation is pleased to announce the creation of the Guy J. Frank Memorial Faculty Enrichment Fund. This faculty excellence award will help recruit, recognize and retain outstanding music faculty at Shepherd.

The late Dr. Guy J. Frank served as Shepherd’s chair of the creative arts division and department of music for 34 years. He initially joined the Shepherd faculty in the summer of 1950. In 1957, Frank assumed the role of department chair where he remained until his retirement in 1984. He was instrumental in establishing the Frank Center for the Performing Arts, which houses Shepherd’s music and art departments.

During his life, Frank was active in the regional community. He was a founding member of Shepherdstown’s Millbrook Orchestra, a longtime member of the Shepherdstown Planning Commission and a Paul Harris Fellow in the Shepherdstown Rotary. He also served on the Board of Directors of Jefferson Memorial Hospital and Contemporary American Theater Festival.

In 1972 Frank established the Alice Frank Memorial Music Scholarship in memory of his late wife to support deserving music students at Shepherd. The Guy Frank Professor Emeritus Scholarship was later established in 2000 through gifts made in honor of Frank, including gifts from the Shepherdstown Rotary and Machen Music in Hagerstown, Md.

After his death in August 2012, the Guy J. Frank Memorial Faculty Enrichment Fund was established by his daughter Meredith in accordance with his wishes. Funds will be used to provide support for travel costs, fees, graduate work and other expenses related to off campus professional and developmental activities.
