Shepherd debate and forensics team wins awards
Shepherd University’s debate and forensics team won numerous awards at a debate and forensics tournament held in Montreal, Canada.
Kelly Dempsey, Hagerstown, Md., received five awards: first place for Dramatic Duo, fourth place for Persuasion, sixth place for After Dinner Speaking, third place for the Lincoln-Douglas debate and fifth place for Pentathlon.
Cullen Byers, Bridgewater, Va., received first place for Dramatic Duo, and Ashley Olson, Martinsburg, received fourth place for the Lincoln-Douglas debate.
Shepherd University also placed fourth place in Team Sweepstakes.
Other members of Shepherd’s debate and forensics team include Elizabeth Dlouhy, Kings Park, N.Y.; Austin Bridge, Inwood and Zach Bakken, Charles Town.
Bloomsburg University, Randolph-Macon College, Alderson-Broaddus College, Binghamton University, Ithaca College, West Virginia University-Parkersburg, Susquahana University,Wilkes College, Hampshire College, Shippensburg University and William and Mary also participated in the tournament.
