Singer-songwriters Rebecca Loebe and Jann Klose make their way to town

Award-winning indie-folk singer Rebecca Loebe and pop singer-songwriter Jann Klose are breaking out nationally, and getting together this tour to share their music with their fans and each other. The tour includes their smart, good humored and mindful artist-audience interactions.
Loebe is an award-winning indie-folk singer from Atlanta, Ga. She quit her job as a full-time recording studio engineer in 2006. Since then, she has performed over 150 shows per year at theaters, cafes and colleges nationwide.
Although Loebe keeps busy and has been on the road for quite some time, she is motivated by her goal to succeed.
“I’ll be on the road for most of this summer. I’ll never enjoy waking up to a different shower every morning, but I’m in love with what I do. I consider touring and performing to be my full time job,” Loebe shared.
She began writing songs and playing the guitar in junior high school. When she was 15, her father took her to the renowned open mic at Eddie’s Attic, a venue where she continues to perform. She graduated high school at the age of 16 and moved to Boston just after her 17th birthday. There, she enrolled at Berklee College of Music, where she earned a degree in music production and engineering. After college she briefly worked as a recording engineer before quitting to focus fully on music. She now resides in Austin, Texas with her boyfriend. Rebecca enjoys the outdoors as she does a lot of gardening, hiking and reading plenty of books in her free time.

“I have a boyfriend who keeps the garden growing while I’m out of town,” Loebe commented.
Loebe found national recognition Maroon 5’s Adam Levine chose her for his team on the first season of the NBC hit television show, “The Voice.” To this day, she’s received over 20,000 downloads on iTunes for her cover of the Nirvana song, “Come As You Are” which she covered on the show.
She has acquired rave reviews for her enthusiastic performances that bring together competent, emotional songwriting, folk storytelling and whimsical comedy for the ADHD generation. She has a brand new album entitled “Circus Heart.” For an independent artist, the record has found a great amount of national press and airplay.
“The Chicago Kid” is one of the many songs featured on the new album. Loebe wrote the song after meeting an 18-year old on an airplane who had never flown before. As she talked to him on the plane ride, she found out he was flying to Chicago to get married. The story truly touched Loebe and inspired her to write a song.
“I love his story and I thought about it for a long time until I turned it into a song. It took me a long time to write because it was someone else’s story and I wanted to get it absolutely right,” Loebe shared.
Loebe often mentions how she is often requested to play songs from her older records such as a song titled “Thanksgiving.”
“I keep playing it because people keep asking and it’s just this tongue and cheek song about having Thanksgiving dinner with your extended family and how awkward it can be,” Loebe commented while giggling.
When she’s not writing or performing her own, she enjoys listening to the works of Gillian Welch, Patty Griffin, Randy Newman. She has also been listening to Dar Williams since she was 12 and recently got to see him perform live.
As for future works, Loebe plans on finding more free time to write new music.
“What I’m hoping to achieve in the near future is to find some time to write a little bit more. It’s definitely a difficult cycle to maintain while touring. I’m just sort of craving a little more time to write and create new works,” Loebe shared.
With an obvious passion for her profession, she has trouble seeing herself doing anything else.
“I have absolutely no idea what I’d be doing if I weren’t a musician. I’ve dedicated the last ten years of my life to this. Sometimes I think maybe I could’ve been a lawyer or a child advocate, but I never see myself giving up my music for anything,” Loebe said.
Jann Klose is a German-born pop singer-songwriter. He is currently finishing his new album, “Mosaic,” the follow up to his critically acclaimed album, “Reverie.” He’s also co-writing songs and performing with Gary Lucas (Captain Beefheart, Jeff Buckley) and Jim McCarty & Band.
“I feel very proud of Mosaic because of the amount of work and passion I put into it. Seeing it come together was like the ultimate reward for me personally,” Klose commented.
Klose was born in Mannheim, Germany and raised in Nairobi, Kenya and Johannesburg, South-Africa where he attended grade school. He moved to Hamburg, Germany as a teenager and first came to the United States as an exchange student. He attended an American Field Service (AFS) program in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. At this time, he began teaching himself the keyboard and subsequently guitar as well as singing and dancing in the high school show choir. He returned to Hamburg, Germany to finish high school and started playing out in subway stations, the high school’s band and then local clubs in Hamburg’s Reeperbahn red-light district.
Ever since he was young, Klose has always had a creative and musical mindset.
“I was always very creative. I was very active in choir and I would always make up various stories and songs when I was little,” Klose commented.
Klose has been actively touring for nearly 8 years. Though he doesn’t get very much sleep, he is happy to be in the profession.
“The lack of sleep is always tough. I don’t really enjoy losing so much down time, but it’s well worth it. I push myself to the limit and beyond that at times. It’s a very complicated industry, but I want the world to hear what I have created,” Klose said.
In his spare time, he enjoys running and working with technology. He also enjoys cooking and doesn’t mind a good party now and then. His favorite part about touring is the benefit of travel. He currently resides in the Bronx, New York where he lives happily single.
“I’ve been to so many beautiful places just through going on tour. It’s great to celebrate my independence. With this life style, I’ve had the privilege of travelling to wonderful places like southern California and Florida. I also really enjoyed going to Berlin, Germany. When I first started touring, I was so thrilled that got to see so many different places,” Klose shared.
He is a featured vocalist and guitarist in the Jeff Buckley biopic Greetings from Tim Buckley, starring Penn Badgley and Imogen Poot and directed by Dan Algrant. The movie premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival and recently picked up by Tribeca Film/Focus World.
His music is also heard on the Grammy nominated “Healthy Food For Thought” compilation, MTV Cribs and movies, “Dead Broke” featuring Paul Sorvino.
Klose enjoys the works of Barnaby Bright, an award winning indie folk duo and jazz vocalist, Emily Braden. As he has a clear love for music, he simply can’t picture himself in any other profession.
“I would probably be dead if I weren’t doing this,” Klose commented. “I can’t imagine myself as anything else.”
Both artists will be performing locally tonight at 8 p.m. at The Blue Moon Cafe, located on the corner of Princess and High Streets. The admission fee is $5.
