SHEPHERDSTOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Library will be open on Easter Monday, April 1.

Ages four through nine are invited to attend a free program with hands-on activities about “wildflowers and April showers.” Taught by a Master Naturalist, the program will be held in the Library’s Children’s Department on Thursday, April 11 from 4 to 4:45 p.m. There is space for 25 children; please call the Library at (304) 876-2783 to register. This is the third in a monthly series cosponsored by the Potomac Valley Audubon Society, Shepherdstown Montessori Academy and the Library.

The Friends of the Shepherdstown Library’s annual poetry and music fundraiser will be held on Friday, April 12 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 202 South Princess Street. Doors open at 7 p.m. to allow plenty of time to select from the many savory appetizers and homemade desserts. Tickets are $35 and may be purchased at the Library. Please call (304) 876-2783 to reserve your seats for “Left of the Bank,” as seating is limited.

Found some overdue books? Just return them between Friday, April 12 and Sunday, April 21, and no fines will be charged for overdue items. To celebrate National Library Week, we will also offer amnesty between the 12th and the 21st for outstanding overdue fines; just ask us to do so. A free film, “The Wicker Man,” (1973) will be shown in Reynolds Hall at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 19. Information about this final film in their spring series may be found at www.shepherdstownfilmsociety.org.

Children’s books to borrow in celebration of National Poetry Month, Earth Day and springtime will be on display in April.

The Shepherdstown Museum, at the corner of German and Princess streets, is open on weekends from April through October and during Christmas in Shepherdstown. Hours are: Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. The Museum tells the history of Shepherdstown and of the Entler Hotel, in which it is located. On display are 18th and 19th century crafts, other early artifacts, and a replica, made by local craftsmen, of James Rumsey’s early steamboat. The Potomac Valley Audubon Society will hold its annual spring Wildflower Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. It will include guided wildflower walks through the preserve for advanced and beginner/families, children’s activities and refreshments. An Ecumenical Service of Prayer and Healing hosted by the Shepherdstown Episcopal Church will meet from 7-8 p.m. in the church Fellowship Hall. This is a service of prayer, song and healing. For

April 10

Civil War Roundtable will offer dinner at 7 p.m. and the program at 8 p.m. The location is Camp Hill Methodist Church, Harpers Ferry. Speaker for this month’s program is Robert J. O’Connor who will speak on the Countdown to West Virginia Statehood.

April 12

6-7 p.m., Yoga Meets Dance at Harmony Healing Arts Center, 211 E. New St. Yoga Meets Dance is easy-to-do, transformational dance, gentle yoga and meditation. All ages, shapes and sizes are welcome. Annual Pancake Breakfast/Brunch; All you can eat at New Street UMC, Corner of New & Church Streets, Shepherdstown – Dining Hall, Lower Level. Serving Times 8 a.m.. to 1 p.m. The menu consists of pancakes, sausage gravy, bacon, sausage, applesauce, juice/coffee/tea. Carry-Out Available Cost is Adults – $7; Children, 3-12 – $4.

Sustainable Saturdays featuring the best of the ACFF. Opera House Live at 4 p.m. Free film screening of “Corner Plot” and “Seed Hunter”: Corner Plot, filmmakers Ian Cook and Andre Dahlman, (11 minutes) Seed Hunter (46 minutes, Smithsonian Network) Donations gratefully accepted to help offset costs for this series.

The Shepherdstown Fire Department will host a 50-game money bingo on Saturday, April 13. Forty games will pay $50 each, eight games will pay $100 each, one game will pay $250 and one will pay $500. Total cash payouts will be $3,550 with a minimum of 100 players needed to guarantee the payouts. Doors open at noon and bingo begins at 2 p.m. No advance tickets sales are available. Cost is $35 with a complimentary meal included.

12 noon, Crystal Bowl Concert at Harmony Healing Center. Ann Craig performs an extraordinary “sound meditation” using eight quartz crystal bowls that fill the Harmony studio with an energetic yet peaceful vibration that soothes and aligns mind, body and soul. Participants can sit in chairs or lie on mats. Donations gratefully accepted.

April 20

10:30 a.m.-noon, Mind Matters: a Presentation on Psych-K at Harmony Healing Arts Center. Please join Michelle DeStefano for a presentation on Psych-K and learn the life-changing dimensions of this energy work. This will be a lively demonstration on how the mind works and why it is difficult to break self-sabotaging habits that block us from our full potential.

The event is free. Please arrive at 10:20 a.m. so that we may begin promptly at 10:30. Michelle DeStefano, is a licensed acupuncturist, certified consulting hypnotist, and Psych-K facilitator who has been working on enhancing people’s health since 1999.

4:45-6:00 p.m., Move into Wellness at Harmony Healing Arts Center. Board-Certified Polarity Practitioner Jenna Newsome takes you through a transformative series of movements to your body’s inner health. Polarity Yoga’s blend of ancient eastern and modern western medicine utilizes energy principles to awaken your innate well-being. It balances all of the mental, emotional and physical bodies, harmonizing you with your life. This first introductory session is free and will be followed by a four-week May series, beginning Sunday, May 5 at 4:45-6:00 pm. Morgan County Master Gardeners Annual Plant Fair. Located in the Berkeley Springs State Park in downtown Berkeley Springs.
