Friends Fellows Benefit Recital
The Friends of Music announces the Friends Fellows Benefit Recital on Saturday, April 6 at 4 p.m. in W.H. Shipley Recital Hall located in the Frank Arts Center. The recital will feature eight Shepherd University student recipients of The Friends of Music Fellowships.
The 2012-2013 Friends Fellows were awarded scholarships from the Friends of Music at Shepherd University to assist their studies within the Department of Music. The Fellows are nominated by their professors who work with them daily and recognize their work ethic and dedication to their education. 2012-2013 Fellows: Jorge Alvarez-Marron, Nathan Arch, Tyler Arnold, Allyson Bayer, Alana Gondeck, Ian Karraker, Justin Loizos, Christina Oliver, and Eduardo Rivera. The fellows will perform a combination of solo and chamber repertoire to include works by Abe, Debussy, Faur, Ewazen, Mozart, Vivaldi and student compositions by Justin Loizos and Ian Karraker. The recital will premier, Home to Shenandoah, commissioned specifically for the 2012-2013 Fellows by Ian Karraker,
Recital coordinator, Dr. Yu-Hsuan Liao who is the director of keyboard studies at Shepherd University and FOM Board of Directors, highlights “The fellows recital is a wonderful opportunity for the community to hear the achievements of Shepherd University’s Department of Music Students. Moreover, it is a celebration and chance to thank the supporters of the community and FOM for the fellowships. In addition to showcasing the solo performances, we have created many chamber music settings among the Fellows. We are very fortunate to have a commissioned piece from our student composer that will conclude our fellows showcase and feature all instruments and voices of this year’s Fellows. We hope the community will join us for this special event.”
