Hike set for May 2
Hikers of all ages are invited to join veteran hiker Bob Floren for a hike along the trails of the South School House Ridge section of the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park on Thursday, May 2.
The hike is being sponsored by the Potomac Valley Audubon Society. It will last about 1.5 hours.
The hike route will wind through forest and fields and offer panoramic views. It will also provide opportunities to see some Civil War sites and ghostly ruins.
Everyone is welcome and no pre-registration is required; the only condition is that participants must be able to walk about 2.5 miles over generally even ground.
Meet at 9 a.m. in Harpers Ferry NHP parking lot on Shoreline Drive, off Route 340. The hiking group will carpool from there to the trailhead because of limited parking at the trailhead site.
The hike is free but entry to the NHP parking lot will cost $10 unless you have an annual or lifetime pass.
Participants should wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots, dress appropriately for prevailing weather conditions, and bring along insect repellent and sun protection as needed.
The hike will take place rain or shine, but it will be canceled in the event of severe weather.
