Jefferson High School participated along with 13 other high schools and 19 middle schools from the region in the 2013 Region IX Festival Bands concert on Friday, April 26 at Musselman Middle School. Students auditioned to be part of the two bands that performed and were selected as the best of the best for the concert. A middle and a high school concert was offered after the students met for only two days of combined practice. Guest conductor for the middle school concert was Betty Sue Kitchen, music educator in Maryland and West Virginia; and for the high school concert was Damon S. Talley, D.M.A., director of bands and associate professor of Music at Shenandoah Conservatory.
