WVUH East to offer discount mammograms

By Staff | May 6, 2013

The Best Protection is Early Detection is the theme for West Virginia University Hospitals-East’s upcoming discount mammogram clinics to be held in May at both City Hospital in Martinsburg and Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson.

These special clinics will be held for three consecutive Saturdays – May 4, 11 and 18 – at City Hospital’s Breast Care Center and Jefferson Memorial Hospital’s Womens Imaging Center from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Screening mammograms will be offered at a discounted community service fee of $60 (cash, check or credit card only) which includes the test and the interpretation by a radiologist.

Jefferson Memorial Hospital was the first hospital in West Virginia and the only hospital is the tri-state area to offer 3D tomosynthesis mammography. This new technology allows physicians to examine breast tissue one layer at a time. City Hospital plans to add 3D mammography when the new women’s imaging center opens in the medical office building across the street from the hospital later this summer or early fall.

WVUH-East’s discounted mammogram program is open to anyone age 35 and older. Although a physician’s order is not required to participate in the mammogram clinics, any patients without a physician will be assigned a physician to receive the test results. All patients participating in the screening mammogram clinics must register in advance.

To schedule a screening mammogram at City Hospital, phone the community wide scheduling department at 304-264-1297. To schedule a screening mammogram at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, phone the community wide scheduling department at 304-724-5647.
