Shepherd University has received approval from its regional accreditor, the Higher Learning Commission, to open an additional location in Martinsburg. The Martinsburg Center is anticipated to open June 16.

“With the formal approval of the Higher Learning Commission, Shepherd will provide working adults convenient opportunities to obtain bachelor’s and master’s degrees at its new center at 261 Aikens Center in Martinsburg,” said Shepherd President Suzanne Shipley. “Shepherd has a proven, 140-year track record for providing quality education, which we are bringing to our new Martinsburg Center operations.”

Designed to serve busy adult learners, the course schedule at the new campus allows students to balance career and family. Learning opportunities combine face-to-face evening instruction with online modules in a blended or hybrid format. Students communicate with faculty and classmates through Shepherd’s e-learning platform, SAKAI.

Initial degree programs offered at Martinsburg include the Regents Bachelor of Arts, a degree-completion program that provides credit for work experience; the R.N. to B.S.N. program; the M.B.A with concentrations in accounting, health care administration, public management, and sport management and graduate-level coursework in special education (notification of approval for the endorsement from the West Virginia Department of Education is anticipated in August).

The Martinsburg Center is offering partnership opportunities to local businesses that will allow their employees to take classes with savings up to 25 percent off the current tuition.
