Experience a once-in-a-life-time opportunity to visit a special never-seen-before exhibit in Baltimore with the Pack Horse Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution on a chartered bus trip, Saturday, June 15.

The group will begin the day with a customized tour with a docent boarding our bus to guide attendees through Baltimore. See historic sites and other prominent buildings in Baltimore’s neighborhoods including Mount Vernon and Fells Point. Lunch will be served in the beautiful Peabody Court Hotel’s private dining room with a spectacular panoramic view of the city.

The second part of our day, visit the museum of the Maryland Historical Society, seeing a special temporary exhibit featuring the life, love and fashion of Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte (1785-1879). Although Betsy was a native of Baltimore, her marriage to Napoleon Bonaparte’s younger brother became an international drama. Disappointed by her ill-fated marriage to Jerome Bonaparte and continually berated by her father, Elizabeth wrote she felt caught between, “an unnatural parent and a faithless husband.” Betsy moved to France, faced family heartbreak, and was eventually betrayed by her husband, even though she bore him a son. She returned to Baltimore, where she became one of the city’s wealthiest landowners. A guided tour of this extensive exhibition displays hundreds of objects, including Betsy’s scandalous fashions.

Other highlights of our museum tour will include seeing collections from the Revolutionary War, including a rare officer’s uniforms; War of 1812 artifacts; Civil War uniforms; early 1800 furniture; collection of paintings by members of the Peale family; and the world’s largest collection of Baltimore Album quilts.

Support of the annual bus trips helps support the Pack Horse Ford Chapter with charitable community work which includes Christmas stockings filled with personal items for Veterans, scholarships to JROTC cadets, Good Citizens award, and awards to local students winning the DAR annual history essay contest.
