By Staff | May 17, 2013

Susan Rosenvold, the Superintendent and Historian of Clara Barton’s Missing Soldiers Office, will present a talk, “Surgery and the Civil War: Surgical Case Studies from the 1862 Campaign at Antietam” at 7 p.m. on May 22 at the Entler Hotel, 129 E. German Street, Shepherdstown.

Rosenvold is currently developing a new museum on the site of Clara Barton’s Mission Soldiers Office, including work on interpreting the site, which is still in need of restoration. She has also served as Director of Education at the Pry House outside of Sharpsburg. The Clara Barton Office and Pry House are part of the Frederick National Civil War Medicine Museum.

The talk is part of the Historic Shepherdstown Commission’s Speaker Series. The May talk is sponsored by Historic Shepherdstown and the Jefferson County Historical Society.

Admission to the event is free. Light refreshments will be served after the talk.

Future talks in the Speakers Series will be: “Preserving the Past: How Shepherdstown Saved the Entler from the Wrecking Ball” by Dr. Jerry Thomas, History Professor Emeritus, Shepherdstown University on Sept. 4, and “Tales of Three Brothers: Capturing the Spirit of Shepherdstown in the Early Years” by local historian Robbye Horowicz on Oct. 24.
