The Shepherdstown Police Department issued a press release last week following what officials described as a “possible abduction attempt.”

On Friday, May 10 at about 9:10 a.m., a female reported the incident to police.

“She felt very uncomfortable,” Shepherdstown Police Chief, David Ransom said in an interview Wednesday.

According to the press release, the victim stated that she was jogging and a white work van drove past her a couple of times during the course of her run.

While in the 200 block of West German St., the van pulled beside her and the driver, who is described as a white male, 50 to 55 years-of- age, with a short gray beard, thin build, and wearing a white tee shirt, made several verbal attempts to get her to get into the van with him.

After repeatedly refusing his requests, the subject drove off westbound on route 45 towards Martinsburg.

Since information regarding the event began circulating, Chief Ransom said hes received feedback on at least two other similar occurrences.

“The physical characteristics were very similar,” he said.

Two previous incidents involving an unmarked white van have now been reported, one in Martinsburg and the other in Charles Town.

I need to get him identified, Chief Ransom said.

“There was no force used in this incident, but if he did it this time, he’s done before and he’ll probably do it again,” he said.

“Who is to say it won’t escalate in the future.”

The van is described as a white work van, no windows, with a partial Maryland registration of 98700.

Ransom said the FBI, U.S. Marshal Service, Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia Fusion Center and the Hagerstown Police Department are all working to identify the plates.
