First Friday Coffeehouse closes season with DC Diva
First Friday Coffeehouse will feature Washington, D.C. singer-songwriter Mercedes Mill on June 7 for the season finale. The venue is located at Trinity Orchard House on Route 45, four miles from the four-way stop in Shepherdstown. Doors open for social time and open sign-up at 7:30 p.m. All open mic participants should be there early to get a slot to perform two songs or eight minutes at one of the area`s premier listening rooms.
Mercedes Mill is a folk rock singer/songwriter living in Washington, D.C. She grew up on a steady stream of classical, jazz, blues, and folk music, and sang in church choirs and school musicals. Some of her fondest childhood memories are of winding musical drives through the rolling hills around her tiny hometown, listening to the great jazz and blues divas, peppered with Hank Williams and the Ink Spots. Her music-loving dad always found a good reason to take the long way home so there’d be another bend in the road, another song.
Mercedes writes songs steeped in haunting melodies at the crossroads of folk rock and Americana. She draws deep inspiration from her partner, classical composer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Matthew Leonard. Mill and Leonard have been performing together since 2008, and have played at many DC venues. Their debut album, Incantation at the Golden Hour, is now widely available.
Enjoy a great evening of music and fellowship. Snacks and refreshments served. A $10 donation per person is requested. For more information, contact Steve Warner at 304-676-4422 or 304-876-2915.
