Benefit held for local survivor
Family, friends and loyal supporters gathered at the Quality Inn, Harpers Ferry on April 28, for a benefit to honor esophageal cancer survivor, Christopher L. Page.
Page was diagnosed with cancer on October 26, 2011, at the age of 33.
“This is almost unheard of,” Chris was told when given his diagnosis. Esophageal cancer is most common in people ages 45-70.
“I didn’t fully understand what I was up against, but I knew that whatever it was I would fight it with everything I had within,” said Page. “I have always been a fighter; the strength of my family and I was not about to let my mother and my sister down.”
The benefit included a special poem dedicated to Page by Pastor Pam Boomer, dinner, raffles and a tribute by guest speaker Teresa Holmes-Lindsey of Full ‘Steem Ahead Life Coaching and Mentoring.
“Chris is much more than a survivor; he is a thriver. As such a young man, he is taking on this battle with more determination and passion than I have ever seen. He is using this as an opportunity to inspire, educate and to change the lives of others,” said Holmes-Lindsey. “His transparency and will to win continues to uplift others and help them through many life challenges.”
After dinner and the ceremony, the Page supporters danced to tunes played by DJ Cedric Galloway. All proceeds from the benefit will go to the Christopher Page Relay for Life Team, who walked at noon on June 1, at Martinsburg High School.
