CATF held Company Picnic
The Contemporary American Theater Festival (CATF) held its annual company picnic Monday evening.
Members of the CATF board, community members and some of this season’s company of actors and playwrights, all came together for the celebration of the new season.
Guests ate and socialized before a set of remarks were given.
Shepherdstown Mayor Jim Auxer discussed the role CATF plays in Shepherdstown’s community, as it provides what he called “intellectual and creative stimulus,” for the town.
Associate Producing Director Peggy McKowan thanked members of the state government like Del. Stephen Skinner and former Del. John Doyle for their support of the theater festival.
“West Virginia has continued to support CATF over the years,” she said.
Producing Director Ed Herendeen discussed the forward thinking work produced at each year’s festival.
“The future spends the summer in Shepherdstown, West Virginia ” he said.
“These plays… Are like jet fuel…” he went on to say.
This season CATF will hit a milestone of 100 plays produced.
This season also marks the opening of the brand new Stanley C. and Shirley A. Marinoff Theater, housed in phase two of Shepherd University’s Contemporary Arts Center.
As in year’s past, CATF will feature five plays in rotating repertory.
This seasons plays include: A Discourse on the Wonders of the Invisible World; Modern Terrorism, or they who want to kill us and how we learn to love them; H2O; Heartless; Scott and Hem in the Garden of Allah.
