Obituary-Master
Donald “Doc” Cameron Master, 94, passed away peacefully at his home, the Masterpeace, on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, with his wife, Carolyn, by his side in hospice management.
Born Oct. 31, 1918, in Weston, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of the late Oliver Master and Ethel Lillian Hutchison.
Doc was a member of the Engle United Methodist Church.
He earned his Doctorate of Veterinarian Medicine from the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada. He retired after 66 years of practice. He was the Honorary member of the AVMN/ DC Academy of Veterinarian Medicine.
Doc served as the mayor of the city of Charles Town for 22 years, 1968 to 1990. He was the president of the West Virginia Municipal League in 1973, was a member of the Region 9 Development Authority, member of the Millbrook Orchestra Board, board member for 10 years, board member of the former Country Day School and an honorary member of the original Harpers Ferry Cooking Club. He was a member of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce.
Doc built and flew his own plane, the BD-5, until his 80th birthday.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Jones Master, at home; two sons, Peter Master and wife, Loey, of Eden Prairie, Minn., and David Master and wife, Sara, of Reedville; two daughters, Barbara Byars and husband, Alan, of Midland, Texas, and Mary Master, of Costa Rica; grandchildren, Beth Fenimore and husband, Jason, Erin Master-Dill and husband, Jeff, Alan Byers and wife, Ciara, Megan Master and companion, Kevin; great-grandchildren, Keane, Devin and Emelia; extended family, Carolyn’s children, Kim Williams, Susan Parker and husband, Lane Funkhouser, Wendy Parker and husband, Clinton Yap and their children.
In addition to his parents and his siblings, he was preceded in death by his first wife, the mother of his children, Grace M. Master.
There will be a private burial at a later date.
