United Way partners with Shepherd

By Staff | Jun 21, 2013

A public signing between Shepherd University’s Martinsburg Center and the United Way of the Eastern Panhandle will take place Tuesday, June 25 at 4 p.m. at the Martinsburg Center, 261 Aikens Center, off of Edwin Miller Boulevard in Martinsburg.

The event marks the first public signing at Shepherd’s new Martinsburg Center for the Strategic Alliance Partnership program, which allows in-state and out-of-state students to take classes with savings up to 25 percent off the current tuition at no cost to the employer. The United Way of the Eastern Panhandle is signing the agreement on behalf of its agencies and their volunteers.

The signing, which will feature Shepherd President Suzanne Shipley and United Way’s CEO, Peter Mulford, will be followed by a reception.

“The Strategic Alliance Partnership with the United Way of the Eastern Panhandle will provide tuition reduction benefits for the United Way’s member agencies,” said Jim Klein, director of the Martinsburg Center. “We appreciate the United Way’s vision and leadership in providing this benefit to agency employees and volunteers by becoming one of the first to join the Strategic Alliance Partnership.”

Peter Mulford said of the partnership, “We’re looking forward to sharing the benefits of this initiative with our agency partners as we all strive to grow our staff and volunteer competencies in support of our various missions. Our board leaders see this as an immediate win-win in adding value for our partners.”
