University honors J.W. Thatcher for 29 years of teaching

By Staff | Jun 21, 2013

On April 18, 2013, the Shepherd University Accounting Club and the School of Business and Social Sciences held a retirement reception to honor Professor J.W. Thatcher, Associate Professor of Accounting, for his 29 years of service to Shepherd University. Faculty, staff, students and alumni were in attendance. Thatcher taught courses in introductory accounting, managerial accounting, and governmental and non-profit accounting during his teaching career.

Thatcher stated, “When one gives most of his working life to a single endeavor, often wondering if it was making a difference to others, it is so rewarding to have the efforts validated by others. You did that for me and, I thank you for it. I have enjoyed the many friendships, both of fellow Professors and of students that have developed over the past 29 years. I have learned much from those relationships. There is a tiny chalkboard on my wall in my office with the following printed on it “To Teach is to touch the future”. This was my hope when I started teaching 35 years ago. You have helped to fulfill that hope”.
