By Staff | Aug 2, 2013

Karen Rice, of Martinsburg, has been named Shepherd University’s Director of Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning as part of Shepherd’s ongoing commitment to adult education and lifelong learning.

Rice has a bachelor of science in finance from Virginia Commonwealth University and a master of business administration from Shepherd. Rice is a board member for the Contemporary American Theater Festival at Shepherd and has worked in the academic advising center, graduate studies office, and the Office of Advancement at Shepherd. She has also been a trust officer with BB&T in Charleston.

“We are delighted to expand access and opportunity with credit and non-credit courses for our community members,” said Dr. Scott Beard, dean of graduate studies and continuing education. “With her education, experience, and ties to the local community, boards, and businesses, Karen will work to develop new course offerings and attract knowledgeable teachers to develop the skills needed by teachers and desired by lifelong learners.”

Courses for both the lifelong learning and continuing education will take place at Shepherd, as well as the new Martinsburg Center, located at 261 Aikens Center. There will be online continuing education opportunities for teachers and education professionals.
