The War Memorial Building in Shepherdstown will come alive once again this weekend, Aug. 3 and 4 as the Shepherdstown Community Club hosts the First Weekend Handmade Market. Doors open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The War Memorial Building is located at 102 E. German Street in the center of historic downtown Shepherdstown.

The monthly Handmade Market has become the “talk of the town” bringing in folks from neighboring states and communities to shop for beautiful handcrafted one-of-a kind products that are made locally by talented artists, artisans and independent designers. The Handmade Market is a juried show designed for a balanced diversity of craft mediums. This weekend’s line-up includes The Pink Petal (seasonal wreaths and home dcor), Susan Carney (fine art paintings, monotypes, cards), Cassie Bosley (hand-quilted items), MFJ designs (knitted/crocheted items, polymer clay creations), Studio Three 17 (fiber art, tablet covers, journals, and sewn accessories), Shea Wolfe Designs (clothing, accessories, masks, jewelry and fine art), Toni Kay Dye (wildlife art and feather paintings), Michael Dye (hand-carved wizard wands and figures), Nature’s Inspirations (gemstone and fair-trade jewelry), and Creative Art and Soul (engraved stone/glass pendants and mosaic wall-hangings).

Within a four-block radius of the War Memorial Building, visitors can also browse Shepherdstown’s unique shops and boutiques, lunch at a variety of restaurants and cafes, take in a walking tour, enjoy the museum, all of which contribute to create a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly mix of business and pleasure. On Sunday morning the Handmade Market coincides with the Shepherdstown Farmer’s Market which is held from 9 am to 1 pm behind the War Memorial Building. It’s a great place to pick up some local fresh fruits and vegetables, farm-raised meat and eggs, fresh flowers and garden plants, bakery fresh bread, artisan cheeses and handmade soap products.

The 1st Weekend Handmade Market is a wonderful celebration of handmade arts, crafts and community! We hope to see you there!
