The 4th annual “Red Carpet” Identity Crisis fundraiser happens this Saturday, Aug. 3 in downtown Shepherdstown.

According to organizer Tara Sanders Lowe, the event will kick off with a parade of participants heading into town in limousines, vintage cars and horse-drawn carriages. Embarking at the Yellow Brick Bank, the group will traverse the streets enjoying specials at a variety of locations including Mecklenburg Inn, Stonewalls Pub, Devonshire Pub and Domestic. Red carpets will mark each stop. Funds from coer charges will be donated to the charity supported by the event.

That charity, Breast Cancer Awareness-Cumberland Valley, is a nonprofit group started more than 20 years ago by several women who felt they had no support in dealing with breast cancer. The program has expanded to offer assistance at no cost to individuals locally. The organization serves Washington and Frederick counties in Maryland, Franklin and Fulton Counties in Pennsylvania, Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan counties in West Virginia and Winchester, Va. areas.

Examples of assistance provided include mammograms and ultrasounds, wigs and turbans, prosthesis, support groups and a variety of other materials such as camps and much more. Support is the name of the game for this organization and they reach out to women struggling with breast cancer and the needs associated with the disease and offer assistance and comfort.

Those who want to join in the celebration are encouraged to dress in “red carpet” ware as royalty, TV stars, superstars, actors and actresses or simply come as yourself to help raise funds for a worthy cause.

In addition to the glitz and glamor to be seen and the specials at each participating event, raffles will be held throughout the night as will carriage and limousine rides. A silent auction will help bring in additional funds.
