Register now for Dogfest dog shows

By Staff | Aug 9, 2013

The Shepherdstown “DogFest” being planned for the August 17-18 weekend will include dog shows both days. The Saturday dog show will be held at 1:15 pm; the Sunday show will be held at 12:15 pm.

Trophies and prizes will be given each day for the best entry in each of the following six categories: Best Show Dog, Best Puppy, Cutest Dog, Ugliest Dog, Most Talented Dog, Dog With the Biggest Heart.

Everyone is invited to enroll their dog in either show and there will be no fees. But all entrants must pre-register. Through Aug. 15, registration forms can be picked up at the Shepherdstown Visitor’s Center on German Street or downloaded from the Center’s website at www.shepherdstownvisitorscenter.com and emailed to dogfestdogshow@gmail.com. There will be a limit on the number of dogs that can enter each show so this early pre-registration is advised.

If space is still available by the DogFest weekend, people may also register their dogs on site by checking in at the Shepherdstown Visitors Center tent on King Street up to 45 minutes before each day’s show.

Both day’s dog shows will be held on King Street, in front of the Town Hall and both will be judged by a panel of dog-loving local residents.

The Master of Ceremonies for both shows will be Roman Holton, president and CEO of Ascension Media Group, a Silver Spring, Md., film and broadcast production company.

The dog shows are being sponsored by PETCO.

All participating dogs must wear a current rabies vaccination tag and all owners must sign a liability waiver.

The DogFest will also include a Blessing of The Dogs in front of the Town Hall both days. Saturday’s blessing will be conducted at 1 p.m. by Rev. G.T. Schramm, of Trinity Episcopal Church. Sunday’s blessing will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. by Pastor Fred Soltow of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. All dogs will be welcome at both blessings.

The DogFest will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. It will include a wide variety of activities for dogs, their owners, and dog lovers, as well as activities that everybody can enjoy. All activities will be free and everyone will be welcome.

The DogFest weekend is being sponsored by the Jefferson County Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Mud Dogs of Shepherdstown, the Shepherdstown Business Association and the Shepherdstown Visitor’s Center.
