Sugar Rush Bakery aptly named
Jolene Carroll found the perfect name for her new business. The Sugar Rush Bakery offers quite the sugar rush with its offering of gourmet cupcakes and candies, muffins, breads and pies.
Located in the Burr Plaza Shopping Center at 43 Ruland Road, Ste. J, the bakery is a temptation for all who may be headed into the park to do business whether it be at neighboring businesses or the Division of Motor Vehicles which sees a steady stream of business.
The bakery, which celebrated with a “soft” opening Aug. 1, “sort of fell into Carroll’s lap,” she said.
“Everything just fell into place,” the new business owner shared. “It’s like reading a story, but the story is my life,” she continued.
Not new to baking, Carroll said that she has been selling her goods at the Morgan’s Grove Market and at some other venues prior to opening the shop. Carroll said she also had often made candies and baked goods as gifts.
She attributed the real start of her business to her preparation of about 300 gourmet cupcakes for her son, Tyler’s graduation party.
“People just wanted them,” she said.
So with the demand, Carroll began selling out of her home as well as at the various markets. When the opportunity arose to secure the storefront at Burr Park, she knew it was time.
The shop, decorated in pink, black and teal, offers a cozy spot for shoppers to select from a variety of delicious cupcakes and flavored coffees to compliment them. In addition to the cupcakes, in regular and mini sizes, Carroll offers breads, candies and limited cake making. Pies will adorn the shelf following the official grand opening scheduled with the Chamber of Commerce on Sept. 6. Those pies will be prepared for the shop by Susie Wimer, a local resident with several blue ribbons garnered from the local county fair for her pies.
In addition to the regular fare, Carroll explained that she will also offer gluten free products at least twice per week. The preparation of those items takes additional time, she explained, as she thoroughly cleans all of the appliances and kitchen tools and then uses only gluten free ingredients in that day’s baking so there is no chance of contamination.
