The Shepherdstown Museum, at the corner of German and Princess streets, is open on weekends from April through October and during Christmas in Shepherdstown. Hours are: Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. The Museum tells the history of Shepherdstown and of the Entler Hotel, in which it is located. On display are 18th and 19th century crafts, other early artifacts, and a replica, made by local craftsmen, of James Rumsey’s early steamboat. The South Jefferson Public Library is pleased to announce an art exhibit featuring the works of Stefanie Boss, photographer. This exhibition is the 45th in the Art in the Library series hosted by the library to highlight the talents of local artists. The exhibit runs from July 1 to August 31st and can be viewed during library hours: Monday through Thursday 10- 7, Saturdays 10-5, and Sundays 1-5. The library is closed Fridays. The library is located at 49 Church St, Summit Point.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Shepherdstown Community Club (SCC) will host a Shepherdstown University new, incoming student open-house and reception at the WMB in town. The event is to welcome new freshman students to the community and is a chance for Club members and the community to meet and greet these young people and talk-up the town and all it has to offer. Included is a public Art Show of SU students work and light refreshments will be served. The event will be in the Gallery on the lower level. Save the date and come welcome the new students to town.

4-5:30 pm (also September 28): Tea Time Health Matters–Dave Didden, MD, will host “Tea Time Health Matters,” a free, once-a-month health “chat” at Harmony Healing Arts Center. Dr. Dave will focus on healing and the power of integrative health and therapeutic connections. He will offer a holistic perspective on health, well-being, disease, and death; and perhaps teach a few skills about nutrition, physical activity, and stress reduction. Dr. Dave will illustrate appropriate, informed use of preventive and therapeutic interventions such as medication, surgery, and other modalities of the medical industry. All are welcome. The Jefferson High School volleyball team will hold a car wah from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Roy Rogers in Ranson. All proceeds will benefit the Volleyball program. Mention Jefferson volleyball at the register to credit 25 percent of your order to the volleyball program as well.

Back by popular demand, The Shepherdstown Really Really Free Markets celebrates it Grand Re-opening at its new location on 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The new location is situated in heart of Shepherdstown at 104 North King Street , directly in front of Shepherdstown City Hall in the street. The Really Really Free Market is a community wide sharing event in which every item brought to the market is considered absolutely free. Almost all items are welcome at the RRFM but please refrain from bringing “trash” to the market. Items such as old paints, tires, broken appliances, child’s car seats and or toxic/degraded industrial chemicals, these items will not be accepted and should be disposed of properly somewhere else. Also if you are donating clothing, furniture or fabrics please insure it is clean. All unclaimed Items will be donated to or other charities/thrift stores at the conclusion of the market. Sept. 2

The Shepherdstown Community Club will host its annual Labor Day picnic from 2 to 5 p.m. at Morgan’s Grove Park. Come to the park and enjoy great food. There will be a nominal fee for the burgers and hot dogs for non-members to help cover costs. Members of the Community Club will not be charged. An added treat this year will be a community art show of the works of local artists from Shepherdstown and neighboring areas. Attendees can enjoy the works and possibly add to their home art collections. The famous and historic Rohrersville Band will play at the picnic as well as other live music to enjoy throughout the afternoon.

French Canadian Music with Genticorum: 8 p.m. Start the fall off with an evening of toe tapping French Canadian music from the fine trio, Genticorum featuring Pascal Gemme on fiddle, feet and vocals, Alexandre de Grosbois-Garand on flute, electric bass, fiddle and vocals and Yann Falquet on guitar, jew’s harp and vocals. The concert will be held in Shepherd University’s Reynolds Hall, on the corner of King and German streets. The Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County is having their annual Indoor Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Zion Episcopal Church Parish House in Charles Town, located at 221 East Washington St. Come check out the large variety of items and help less fortunate cats and dogs in our area. All proceeds will benefit the homeless pets waiting for adoption at the Animal Welfare Society shelter on Leetown Pike, near the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. The AWS shelter is open from Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m.to – 4 p.m.

Contra Dance: Anna Rain calls lively contras and English ceilidh dances to the rockin’ sounds of the English-style ceilidh band, FrogHammer with Andrew Marcus on piano accordion, Jim Besser on concertina, Glyn Collinson on guitar and bouzouki, Dave Casserly on saxophone, Michael Ferguson on trombone, Bob Collins on drums, and Richard Seidel on bass at the Shepherdstown War Memorial Building. The Jefferson County Council on Aging will host their 2nd Annual Motorcycle Ride at the Anna Mae Reedy Senior Center. Pre-Registration preferred to guarantee t-shirt. Cost for driver $25 (includes lunch and t-shirt); Rider $15 (includes lunch). If you register at the door, the cost for driver will be $30 and t-shirts are subject to availability. Registration is 8:30-10:30 a.m. with a two hour ride to begin at 10:30 a.m. BBQ lunch will be served after ride. Phaze 2 Gallery Exhibit Opening: The Department of Contemporary Art and Theater at Shepherd University presents an exhibit featuring the Fine Art Faculty. The exhibit opens on the 16th in two locations spread across campus. The Reading Room of the Scarborough Library will host a reception from 4-6pm and Phaze 2 Gallery located on the first floor of the new Center for Contemporary Art and Theater from 5-7 p.m. The show features contemporary works from Rhonda Smith, Sonya Evanisko, Christian Benefiel, Stephanie Robbins Thulin, Kristin Kaining, Rick Bruner, Peter Bella, collabAttack, Mike Mendez, Adam Leviton, Scott Ely, Mark Burrier, David Modler, Robert Farmer and Barbra Chapman.
