Audubon sponsors tree walk
A Potomac Valley Audubon Society “Tree Walk” held at Shepherdstown’s Morgan’s Grove Park in August proved so popular the Society has organized another one for Sept. 18.
As in August, the walk will be led by arborist Shawn Walker. Participants will meet at 5 p.m. in the park’s lower parking lot by the train tracks and soccer fields.
The walk will last about two hours. It will focus on identification of tree species, the habitats and landscape values of different trees, and the issues different tree species may pose for both forest managers and homeowners.
There will be a prize for the winner of a tree-height guessing challenge.
The event will be free and open to the public but space will be limited and pre-registration is essential. To pre-register or get more information, go to the PVAS website or contact Kelly Wolf at kheldreth@hotmail.com or 304-229-6229.
Participants should wear comfortable shoes and bring insect repellant.
