By Staff | Sep 13, 2013

Kaitlyn Suzanne Baird and Kenneth Lee May were united in marriage June 15, 2013, at Shepherd Universitys Reynolds Hall. The ceremony was officiated by the bride’s family friend, Michael Grove, of Hedgesville.

Kaitlyn is the daughter of David and Lu Rae Baird of Martinsburg, and the granddaughter of Edgar and Linda Mason, of Inwood, and David and Betty Baird of Gerrardstown. Kenny is the son of Roy and Jennifer May, of Inwood, and the grandson of Annamae Stottlemyer and the late Roger Stottlemyer, of Boonsboro, Md., and Lester and Blanche May, both late, of Inwood.

Escorted by her father, and given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore an ivory, A-line gown with a natural waist, made of silky organza and lace. The Enzoani gown featured a sweetheart neckline, lace bodice with button up back closure, and fabric floral details on the skirt’s pick-ups, with a chapel-length train. She wore a fingertip length veil with a jeweled, scalloped edge. The bride carried a bouquet of white and blue hydrangeas, freesia, wax flowers, and hypericum berries.

The maid of honor was the bride’s best friend and college roommate, Charlotte Mason, of Marlton, N.J. Bridesmaids were Bergan Holbrook, of Shepherdstown, Samantha Barrett, of Hedgesville and Hallie Kief, of Inwood, all cousins of the bride. The maid of honor and bridesmaids wore guava, floor-length, chiffon and charmeuse gowns and carried bouquets of blue hydrangeas, wax flowers, and hypericum berries.

The best man was the groom’s friend J.D. Getz, of Ranson. Groomsmen were Travis Moreland, of Bunker Hill, Adam Edgeson, of Martinsburg, and Seth Kress, of Littlestown, Pennsylvania.

The reception was held at the Clarion Inn, in Shepherdstown. Music was provided by DJ Rick Rohn. The couple had their first dance to Bonnie Tylers “Total Eclipse of the Heart.”

The three-tier ivory wedding cake was simply adorned with ivory fondant hydrangea blossoms. The cake was topped with figurines of Homer and Marge Simpson in their wedding finery, a reference to the couples shared love of The Simpsons.

The bride is a 2008 graduate of Martinsburg High School, and graduated summa cum laude from Shepherd University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in creative writing and a minor in Spanish. She will graduate from the University of South Florida with a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science in July 2014. She currently works in the library at Hood College in Frederick, Md.

The groom is a 2005 graduate of Musselman High School, and graduated cum laude from Shepherd University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science. He will graduate from Hood College with a Master’s degree in computer science in May 2014. He currently works as a software engineer with Data Systems Analysts at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Md.

The couple honeymooned in Riviera Maya, Mexico and now reside in Frederick, Md.
