Fresh Feast on the Farm dinner set for Oct. 5
An autumn “Fresh Feast on the Farm” dinner will be held the evening of Oct. 5 at the Strider family’s Clay Hill Farm in Ranson.
The Fresh Feast on the Farm program was launched by Jane Tabb of Leetown in 2008 in an effort to promote the connection of land to food to people and agritourism in Jefferson County. It provides unique dinner experiences that highlight delicious, locally produced foods served in gorgeous, historic farm settings.
Each dinner features a multi-course meal that varies with the seasons. The dinners are country elegant-held in a tent, barn or other structure with white tablecloths and linen napkins.
Meals are served plated and accompanied by West Virginia wines. The main entre for this event will be Roasted Chicken, featuring antibiotic and hormone free chicken raised at Walnut Hill Farm in Kearneysville.
Ten percent of each event’s gross revenues are donated to a partnering local non-profit organization that provides volunteer wait staff. The host farm also receives ten percent (optional). The remaining proceeds cover event and program costs.
The Oct. 5 event will start at 6 p.m. with appetizers and wine tasting. Dinner will follow at 7 p.m. inside the restored Clay Hill Farm House (circa 1828). This five-bay brick house is one of the five sisters Hurst homes and was featured in the 2010 House and Garden Tour.
The partnering nonprofit organization is the Rotary Club of Charles Town and the club will receive ten percent of the evening’s proceeds. Club volunteers will serve as the wait staff.
Dinner tickets are: Table for 8 – $560, Couples – $150 and Single – $80. Space is limited and reservations are required.
