Claymont Mansion site of tree walk

By Staff | Sep 27, 2013

The Potomac Valley Audubon Society will sponsor a Tree Walk at the historic Claymont Mansion property outside Charles Town on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The walk will be led by arborist Shawn Walker. Participants will meet at 10 a.m. on the entrance road to the property, which is located at 667 Huyett Road.

The walk will last about two hours. It will focus on identification of tree species, the habitats and landscape values of different trees, and the issues different tree species may pose for both forest managers and homeowners.

There will be a prize for the winner of a tree-height guessing challenge.

The event will be free and open to the public but space will be limited and pre-registration is essential. To pre-register or get more information, go to the PVAS website or contact Kelly Wolf at kheldreth@hotmail.com or 304-229-6229.

Participants should wear comfortable shoes and bring insect repellant.
