First Friday Coffeehouse features Virginia duo
First Friday Coffeehouse will host the popular Winchester, Va. duo, Chatham Street, at Trinity Orchard House on Route 45, four miles from the four-way stop in Shepherdstown. Doors open for social time and open mic sign-up at 7:30 p.m. Open mic starts at 8 p.m. and is on a first come first serve basis. Eight performers have the opportunity to do two songs (eight minutes each) in front of an attentive audience in one of the area’s premier listening rooms.
Chatham Street hit the music scene with their debut CD, “Last One Out”, in October 2010. On Sept. 15, 2012, not quite two years later, they were performing at the legendary venue, The Birchmere, opening for Don McLean. Since they have been racking the credits, wining numerous songwriting awards and performing at major music venues throughout the region.
Peter and Christal Prout, have been playing music for years. Taking their name of the street they lived on in Detroit, “Chatham Street” was formed when Christal decided to pen her own songs as a way to deal with the death of several family members. Apparently she has found her calling.
Chatham Street likes to call their sound “New Americana”, as they feel it carries multiple musical influences, from old-time gospel, bluegrass, rootsy-folk, yet it has the edginess of the contemporary rock and pop. Christal’s vocals soar over Peter’s tasteful vintage guitar, sounding like her Scottish-Appalachian heritage. Together, they are a magical and refreshing combination.
Enjoy a great evening of music and fellowship. Snacks and refreshments served. Trinity Orchard House is located at 4599 Shepherdstown Rd. A $5 – $10 donation per person is requested.
