Homecoming: It’s all happening at Shepherd

Steeped in 130 years of rich tradition and history, Shepherd University will host its Homecoming 2013, celebration on Saturday, Oct. 5.

A plethora of activities will abound. Prevalent blue and gold will adorn the fall streets of the historic town, bustling with current students, alumni, the community and sports fans from across the region. All will gather for a day of celebration of the accomplishments of Shepherd University students, alumni and the community.

At 9 a.m., there will be a light breakfast for Alumni on the front lawn of McMurran Hall, a perfect place from which to view the parade on German Street. The breakfast will be hosted by the Shepherd University Alumni Association and Shepherd University Foundation.

Scarborough Library tours will feature a display of the original photos and documents used for Dr. Dorothy Hively’s newly published Shepherd University campus book. Sponsored by the Scarborough Society and the Shepherd University Foundation, the tours run from 10-11:30 a.m..

The Shepherd University Bookstore will be open for alumni and friends. Make sure to present current SUAA membership card for a ten percent discount!

The annual Homecoming parade starts at 10:15 a.m. and will feature a Hollywood Walk of Fame theme, where currently enrolled students will act out skits focused on a celebrity who has been awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They must also incorporate a Shepherd message in their skit, parade banner and parade float.

Noon is game time as the Shepherd Rams take on the University of Charleston on what weather forecasters are predicting to be a mostly sunny day with temperatures in the low 80s. Wear Blue and Gold and come boisterously rooting for a great team of athletes battling it out on the gridiron as the Rams fight to maintain their perfect record.

Halftime will feature an introduction of the 2013 Homecoming Court at Ram Stadium.

There will be a post game party at the Clarion Hotel from 4 – 8 p.m. A $10 admission includes raffle chances, draft beer (with a valid ID and while supplies last) DJ and karaoke. Buffet will be available for purchase through the Clarion. Everyone is welcome.

An “After Party” starts at Devonshire, 107 Princess Street featuring live music by Lucy. (www.lucyrockband.com/).
