Mason Ellsworth invites one and all to a Birthday Bash to celebrate his 24th birthday — Saturday, Oct. 12 at The Train Station in Shepherdstown. International cuisine, live music and entertainment will be served up from 7 9 p.m.

Mason is currently under going an intense rehabilitation program in Philadelphia during the week and hopes all his friends will turn out to party and celebrate not only his birthday but how far he’s come.

To help defray the cost of the six week program, the evening will include a silent auction of Mason’s paintings. Also, a suggested donation of $10, to help with the rehab costs, will be gratefully accepted.

Mason’s artwork is currently on exhibit at Artomatic in Frederick, Md., Up on the Hill, The Mecklenburg Inn and The Devonshire Pub in Shepherdstown, as well as in the homes of many private collectors. His work was also chosen to be shown at Art Ability, a juried exhibit opening on November 4th at Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital.

Mason Ellsworth was born and raised in Shepherdstown. He graduated with honors from Jefferson High School in 2008 and was planning to attend Shepherd University with a full music scholarship that fall. On the afternoon of July 23, 2008, his car was hit broadside by a truck and Mason suffered a traumatic brain injury and was in a coma for the next six months. The doctors gave him a small chance of survival but even if he did he would not be able to function in any way. Five years later, Mason is proving the doctors wrong.

Sylvia Ellsworth, said of her son’s latest rehabilitation, “He’s impressed the therapists and staff with his cognitive improvements and we are only two weeks into the program. With the support of our community, friends and family, Brian and I are positive Mason will continue to thrive .BMRH is an amazing facility and we feel very lucky that the evaluation went well and he was accepted in to the new .Neurorehab program. Mason keeps improving. Who knows what the future holds?”
