Women Voters League held meeting

By Staff | Nov 8, 2013

Guest speaker, author and columnist Sean O’Leary kept 41 League members and guests interested in subjects dear to the heart of West Virginians. He pointed out how many of the familiar political mantras are just not true if you look at the numbers, and sang the praises of the Other Sean O’Leary, policy analyst for the West Virginia Center on Budget and Policy in Charleston, who has been coming out with a number of factual corrections to cherished West Virginia political ideas. Mr O’Leary signed copies of his book, “The State of My State: A Native Son’s Search for West Virginia.”‘

Special recognition was given to Jean Neely, one of the founders of the Jefferson County League and this year’s Girl Scouts’ Woman of Distinction. She in turn remembered stalwarts of the early years including Carolyn Hoffman, Josephine Bratina.

Members engaged in the regular business of deciding who would get this year’s League Community Service Award, discussing the upcoming election forums and choosing other topics to explore in the coming year. The League is a non-partisan organization open to men and women interested in promoting good government through education and advocacy.
