Too busy to return your overdue library books during the Library’s fine-free Fridays? You are invited to visit the Shepherdstown Library during open hours today through Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 1 p.m. to request amnesty for your pre-existing overdue fines! The Shepherdstown Library will be CLOSED from 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27 through Friday, Nov. 29, and reopen on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 9 a.m. No fines will be charged for overdue items returned while the Library is closed. A French Immersion Story Time for infants through grade two will be at 4 on Monday, Dec. 2, and a Spanish Immersion Story Time will be on Dec, 9 at 4 p.m. Save the date: there will be a holiday program for children on Saturday, Dec, 14, with details to be announced soon.

The Shepherdstown Museum, at the corner of German and Princess streets, is open on weekends from April through October and during Christmas in Shepherdstown. Hours are: Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Inquiries should go to 304-876-0910, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The Shepherdstown Community Club is sponsoring a month long Christmas Bazaar at the War Memorial Building (German and King streets). Admission is free. A pre-holiday preview will be held Nov. 23 and 24 with the bazaar dates follow each weekend until Christimas: Nov. 29, 30 and Dec. 1; Dec. 7-8; Dec. 14-15 and Dec. 21-22. A selection of unique handcrafted items, by jury selected local and regional artisans, make for ideal holiday gifts, and allow one to support the Shepherdstown Community Club’s work in the community.

Nov. 24

The Shepherdstown Community Thanksgiving Service, sponsored by the Shepherdstown Ministerial Association, will be at the historic New Street United Methodist Church, 202 West New Street, and at 4 p.m. The service will include special music from the Shepherdstown Elementary Chorus, prayers and readings, and a time to offer thanks. A reception and time of fellowship will follow.

In response to Homeless & Hunger Awareness Week (Nov. 16-24) an offering of non-perishable goods and monetary gifts will benefit Caring Cupboard and Jefferson County Community Ministries. Caring Cupboards provides nutritional weekend meals for Shepherdstown school children. Jefferson County Community Ministries is a faith based ministry with a food pantry, clothing closet and other basic needs services for Jefferson County residents.

Nov. 29

An integral part of Christmas in Shepherdstown is the annual Chili and Cornbread event sponsored by

the Kiwanis Club of Shepherdstown. It will be served upstairs of the War Memorial Building (Men’s Club) from 4 – 8 p.m. There will be more than a dozen varieties of homemade chili. Adults – $6; children 6-12 – $4; under 4 – free. Baked goods, a raffle and Shepherdstown ornaments will also be available. All funds raised are returned to support the children and youth of the community and the

world.

Town Christmas events run from 5-8 p.m. and include a bonfire, the lighting of the town tree, the arrival of Santa, and children’s visits with Santa.

Dec. 1

6:30-7:30 p.m. at Harmony Healing Arts Center, 211 E. New Street, Shepherdstown. Get into the spirit of peace and love for the holiday season by sharing in the chant, strum, and beat of Kirtan. Laura First, Don Oehser, Paul Kadin, and friends will lead you in one of the world’s oldest sacred music traditions. Join your voice in community, share in the experience of Kirtan, which brings unity to all involved. Donations for the musicians are gratefully appreciated.

Dec. 4

Shepherdstown Area Independent Living, SAIL invites members of the community to join friends and neighbors for Coffee and Conversation to learn more about the “village.” SAIL is a non-profit member-supported organization whose mission is to enable its members to remain active, connected, independent and in their homes and community as long as possible. Contra Dance: Adina Gordon calls lively contra dances at our annual holiday dance to the fine music of Mavish with Jaige Trudel on fiddle, Adam Broom on guitar and Matthew Olwell on flute, bodhran and foot percussion at the Shepherdstown War Memorial Building. Beginners workshop at 7:30 p.m., dance starts at 8 p.m. All levels welcome, no partners needed. Please wear clean, soft-soled shoes to protect the floor. Admission is $10 adults, $7 SMD members, $4 dancers under 12 years old. 3 p.m.. Aromatherapy Bath Salt Demonstration: FREE! & Handmade Holiday Open House: Join us for an afternoon of fellowship, refreshments, and an opportunity to do some Holiday shopping. Wild Rose Soap products will be for sale, along with handmade beautiful knit gifts and hand sewn pillows, aprons, table-runners, and more by local artisans.
