Towns’ food drive great success
The towns of Bolivar and Harpers Ferry sponsored the “Hearts for Hungry” Thanksgiving food drive to benefit the Jefferson County Community Ministries. The gathering of food items, which included boxes of apples courtesy of Wilt’s Fruit Stand as well as thousands of pounds of potatoes, totaled nearly 8,000 pounds in donations.
In addition, the towns collected more than $3,000 in cash donations for needed components of the Ministries’ service.
The project was and has been a community event. The need for assistance to county families has continued to grow over the past few years and all help is greatly appreciated. According to Bolivar Mayor Bob Hardy, donations are still welcome and will continue to be collected throughout the winter months.
