Holiday events continue in town

By Staff | Dec 13, 2013

Shepherdstown’s annual Christmas celebration will continue through Dec. 22, with many events scheduled for the next two weekends.

Highlights of the Dec. 13-15 weekend will include three performances of the Nutcracker Ballet spread over both days; a special showing of the movie “Star Wars” to benefit the Toys for Tots campaign on Saturday; and a Celtic music concert on Sunday.

The Dec. 20-22 weekend will feature a “Tuba Christmas” concert on Saturday afternoon and a Christmas Blues concert with the Billy Thompson Band that evening.

Both weekends will include dramatic readings of “A Christmas Carol,” free Saturday afternoon children’s films, and visits with Santa at the Historic Shepherdstown Museum.

For full details, go to the Shepherdstown Visitors Center website at www.shepherdstownvisitorscenter.com. Or contact the Visitors Center at 304-876-2786.

Throughout the period, the town’s restaurants will offer holiday fare and many shops will be open late on Fridays and Saturdays.

The town’s regular shops will be supplemented by two special holiday marketplaces: one at the War Memorial Building offering art, home dcor, seasonal items, specialty foods, clothing and jewelry; and another at the Entler Hotel offering wreaths, holiday food, bird houses, pottery, soaps, clothing and candles.

There will be free parking in all the metered spaces in Shepherdstown from Dec. 14-25. In addition, free parking will be available weekends in Shepherd University parking lot “A” at High and Princess streets, one block from downtown.

Details of some activities may change and new events may be added. Please check the Shepherdstown Visitor’s Center website at for the latest schedule information.
