Speak returns

By Staff | Jan 13, 2014

On Tuesday, Jan. 14, “Speak: Shepherdstown Story Series” will present Megan Hicks of Philadelphia. A storytelling empress, origami swami, and junk artist, Hicks is a nationally-known teller of many kinds of tales. Her recordings of fairy tales (traditional and fractured), historical stories, and personal tales have received a Parents’ Choice Silver Award, NAPPA award, Storytelling World Awards, and numerous story slam competition titles. Her yearly fracturing of a traditional story for Groundhog Day is a much-anticipated event (think Groundhogstiltskin and Groundhoglocks and the Three Bears). For the Jan. 14 show, “Speak” will donate 10 percent of ticket sales to Friends of the Shepherdstown Library (FOSL). The event will take place in the Community Club, War Memorial Building at 7:30 p.m. Phone 304-886 -9481 to reserve tickets.
