Contestants to vie for titles

The Shenandoah Scholarship Organization presents the Miss Jefferson County and Miss Jefferson County’s Outstanding Teen Scholarship Pageant, both local preliminaries to the Miss America and Miss America’s Outstanding Teen on Jan. 25, beginning at 7 p.m.

The festivities will be held at the Wright Denny Elementary School auditorium in Charles Town.

Cost of admission to the event is $10 per person with children under five free.

Five young ladies will competin for the title of Miss Jefferson County.

Tess Hyre, 19, of Charles Town. Hyre’s platform for competition is “Positive Outlook from Medical Issues” and her talent portion will feature jazz dance.

Tiana Davis, 19, of Kearneysville, will perform lyrical dance. Her platform focus is “Save a Life: Give Blood.”

Morgan Breeden, 19, of Charles Town, will entertain the audience with her piano accomplishments and she will work toward making individuals aware of her platform, “Bully’s Beware: I Have a Lion In My Heart!”

Alexa Cincinnati 17, of Martinsburg, shares her platform of “Dangers of Distracted Driving” which will be her focus for the year if selected as a title-winner. She will showcase her vocal talents by singing “Soon.”

The candidates are rounded out with Mandy Holben 19, of Geardstown, performing tap as her talent portion of the evening. Her issue of focus for the year is “Do not let your curves define who you are.”

Miss Jefferson County Outstanding Teen candidates are Emily Matlock 16, of Charles Town, who is focusing on “WEE Read: Promoting childhood literacy through book donation.” Matlock will perform acrobatic dance during the evening’s talent portion of the show.

Leana Renae Mohn 13, of Inwood, will also compete for the title. Her platform, S.O.S – Siblings Offering Support,” will be shared throughout the year. Mohn will perform the vocal number, “White Horse.”

The final teen competitor is Sabryn Franklin 13, of Hedgesville. With her platform focusing on “Overcoming Disabilities Through Dance,” she will offer Lyrical Dance as her portion of the talent competition.
