“Too Many Pieces” teaches valuable lessons

By Staff | Jan 24, 2014

Marina Tiano, of Hilton Head, S.C., formerly of Shepherdstown, is a first time author who has written a children’s picture book that deals with how confusing the English language can be. There is also a more subtle theme that deals with accepting those who are different,.

“Too Many Pieces” tells the tale of Little Gray Mouse who lives on a farm among a group of field mice that are fearful of the cats on the property. He attempts to find peace and bring it to the cats, but learns from a wise, old mouse that he is looking for the wrong kind of piece. The story ends when Little Gray Mouse discovers he has possessed the meaning of peace all along.

Putting herself in the role of a child trying to comprehend the world of ideas and language shows how well Tiano understands the difficulties children face. The book is an enjoyable tale for preschoolers, and a teaching tool for children in the early grades.
