Breeden, Matlock receive crowns

Morgan Breeden was crowned Miss Jefferson County 2014 Saturday, Jan. 25, at Wright Denny Intermediate School auditorium in Charles Town.

Breeden is a 19-year-old freshman at Shepherd University, the daughter of Blair and Ann Breeden of Charles Town .

For the talent portion of the pageant Breeden played a self composed piece on the piano. Her platform promoted during her reign as Miss Jefferson County focuses on “Bully’s Beware: I Have a Lion in My Heart.”

Breeden also received the Frank Markstrom Memorial Interview Award, the Shenandoah Scholarship Organization Community Service award and the Beverly Jones Congeniality Award.

She received her crown from Makayla Lewis, Miss Jefferson County 2013. She will have the chance to participate in the Miss West Virginia Scholarship Pageant later this year.

Emily Matlock was crowned the 2014 Miss Jefferson County’s Outstanding Teen at the event the same evening..

Matlock is the 16-year-old daughter of Barbara and Robert Matlock of Charles Town.

For her talent portion of the pageant she performed an acrobatic dance to “Ay Mama Mia” by Mayra Veronica.

Matlock’s platform during her reign as Miss Jefferson County’s Outstanding Teen is “WEE Read: Promoting childhood literacy through book donations.”

She received her crown from Katie Rose, Miss Jefferson County’s Outstanding Teen 2013. Matlock will have the chance to participate in the Miss West Virginia’s Outstanding Teen Pageant in the upcoming year.
