First Friday Coffeehouse welcomes guitarist

New York’s Gerry McKeveny will bring his incredible guitar chops and great songs to First Friday Coffeehouse, Mar. 7, at Trinity Orchard House in Shepherdstown. Doors open for social time and open mic sign-up 7 p.m. Open mic starts at 7:30 and is on a first come first serve basis. Eight performers have the opportunity to do two songs (eight minutes each) in front of an attentive audience in one of the area’s premier listening rooms. The feature goes on stage around 9 p.m. for an hour set. Please note the new, earlier starting time.

From pubs of Ireland to the ballrooms of the Plaza and Pierre hotels in Manhattan. from biker bars to the main stages of the prestigious Falcon Ridge and South Florida Folk Festivals, Gerry McKeveny has plied his craft in an astonishing array of venues. He approaches the business of making good music with passion, commitment and joy.

With the encouragement of the late Artie Traum, Gerry recorded Healing Season, a CD of original acoustic guitar instrumental compositions. It won the praise of Grammy-winner Rosanne Cash, who was taken with its “beautiful, emotionally potent lyricism.” A smooth singer, Gerry is also a member of the folk harmony trio Gathering Time.
