Scouts learn flag etiquette

By Staff | Feb 28, 2014

The Tiger and Wolf dens from Cub Scout Pack 6 met at the Charles Town VFW Post 3522 on Wednesday Feb. 20 to learn the history of the pledge of allegiance and how it has changed over the years from its original version. Special attention was given to the significance of the different parts of the pledge. All of the Scouts had a chance to practice folding the flag with members of the post Honor Guard. The Scouts learned about the symbolic significance of the 13 steps to folding the flag. Flag etiquette, including the proper use and display of the flag, was explained. The Honor Guard described the ceremony performed to properly retire the flag when it no longer suitable for display. The Scouts had a chance to talk with the honor guard veterans and ask them questions about their service. VFW Post 3522 Honor Guard present were Senior Vice Commander Adam Solich, Junior Vice Commander Byron Royal, Daniel Holtz and Bill Wilson.
