The League of Women Voters of Jefferson County presented its fourth annual Community Service Award to Hospice of the Panhandle at a small ceremony Feb. 26.

Hospice of the Panhandle, a 34-year-old not-for-profit agency, has helped those with serious, life-limiting illnesses manage their pain and symptoms in the comfort of their own homes. The agency serves Berkeley, Hampshire, Jefferson and Morgan counties. Within the next two weeks, a new 14-bed inpatient unit will open on the 19-acre Hospice campus located on the Berkeley-Jefferson County line, just off of old Route 9 This will enable the organization to offer a new level of service to the four-county community.

The League applauds Hospice for its many years of service to serious ill residents of the four-county area and their families and friends.

“We are pleased to present this award to Hospice,” said LWV president Debbie Royalty. “The care that they offer to patients and families during an extremely vulnerable time is truly remarkable and invaluable.”

The National League of Women Voters is known for Voters Services, but also actively supports services for families, especially those most in need. Hospice of the Panhandle’s mission and actions reinforce this goal.
