Yoga and the Love Poems of Rumi

By Staff | Mar 14, 2014

Jala Yoga, the yoga studio at Mellow Moods Cafe and Juice Bar, 117 West German Street, Shepherdstown, will offer a workshop focusing on opening the heart through yoga postures and the love poetry of Rumi, the 13th-century Persian poet and mystic. The class, taught by Elaine MacDougall, takes place on Sunday, March 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $20.

The nurturing workshop will include a yoga practice illuminating the heart chakra, or energy center, followed by a shared meal of green vegetables and the reading of Rumi’s love poems. Participants are encouraged to bring a green vegetable dish to share, a bowl or plate, a journal, and a copy of a Rumi love poem.

MacDougall recently completed her 200-hour teacher training certification through Jala Yoga, under the mentorship of Christa Mastrangelo Joyce. She also teaches writing at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and the Community College of Baltimore County. Through this workshop, she is delighted to share her passion for yoga and poetry with others.
