Goodwill Store to open Mid-May

The signage has appeared next to Food Lion indicating the upcoming opening of a Goodwill Retail Store in Shepherdstown.
According to Deb Carbaugh, manager of Marketing and Community Relations with Horizon Goodwill Industries, move-in activities soon.
“We are really excited to be joining the Shepherdstown community” said Carbaugh. “The chance to connect with the community and provide funding for our job training and other services begins with our stores.”
Carbaugh explained that each store sells a wide variety of new to gently used clothing, household items, furniture, books and toys at affordable prices. With thousands of items added to the retail sales floor daily, inventory is ever changing.
“The great thing is that while our shoppers give new life to the items they purchase, the revenue (90 cents of every dollar) is used to support our mission through job training and other services. We believe in the power of work to change people’s lives,” Carbaugh shared.
“The dignity of making your own way as much as possible and earning a paycheck makes a difference to the people we serve. We strengthen our communities by providing programs and services designed to give people the training, skills and experience they need to find and keep a job,” she continued.
The store had been set to be staffed earlier, but due to unforeseeable delays, decisions on staffing for were put on hold. Carbaugh said that Horizon is resuming the hiring process. Any interested parties can apply on-line at www.horizongoodwill.org/careers.
The Shepherdstown store will offer three full time positions (including one manager and two clerks) and one part-time position to start. Once the staff is hired and in training, donations at the new location will be accepted. The proposed timeline for individuals to begin dropping donations should fall in mid-April with a proposed opening of the 6,500 square foot store set for the middle of May.
