Celebrating World Tai Chi and Qigong Day

By Staff | Apr 18, 2014

One can “be in Harmony” Saturday afternoon, Apr. 26, as the celebration of World Tai Chi and Qigong Day is hosted by teachers of both disciplines in Shepherdstown.

The annual April event has been celebrated in 80 countries since 1999 to educate the public about the healing qualities of both of these ancient Chinese medical modalities.

The public is invited, free of charge, to the Apr. 26 event from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Harmony Healing Arts Center, 211 E. New Street, Shepherdstown. It will include both presentations about and participation in both Tai Chi and Qigong, with time to relax in chairs.

Cassie Bosley has been studying Tai Chi since 1994, with the late Barbara Feldman of Blue Heron Healing and Martial Arts. She also has studied extensively with masters from around the world during that time and teaches two weekly Tai Chi classes at Harmony in addition to classes elsewhere in the area.

Michelle DeStefano began studying Qigong (pronounced Chi Gong) in the early 1990s, while completing her studies to be an acupuncturist. Since that time, she also has continued her studies with world-class Qigong masters. Michelle teaches a regular weekly class in Qigong at Harmony and practices acupuncturist, hypnotism, Quantum Touch, and several other healing modalities at her Shepherdstown studio.

Light refreshments will be offered. Donations will be gratefully accepted but are not necessary. No advanced registration is necessary. Just show up with an open mind, a cheerful heart and a pair of socks!
