Another record setting change

By Staff | Apr 25, 2014

For the second year, local cloth diaper and natural toy/childrens clothing store, Up on the Hill, will help sponsor a record-setting event.

A “Great Cloth Diaper Change,” will take place in Shepherdstown on Saturday, April 26 at the Storer Ballroom, in the Student Center on Shepherd University’s Campus.

Amii Fritz, owner of Up on the Hill and Maria Moser of the blog, Change- Diapers.com, have organized this local event in coordination with a worldwide “Guinness Book of World Record” setting attempt.

According to Fritz, last year’s record setting change saw 8301 changes in 24 hours, in multiple venues, at 180 locations around the world.

This year, 324 host locations will participate in 23 different countries and Fritz said Shepherdstown’s event, will be bigger than ever.

“It’s almost twice as many as last year,” she said of this year’s expected attendees.

“We have 83 people pre-registered.”

This year’s local event will be held as part of a whole day of activities according to Fritz.

A mini natural parenting fair is planned, which will feature an array of venders, products and demonstrations for visitors and participants.

“Everything’s very child and parenting oriented,” she said.

Fritz said the fair will begin at 10 a.m. before the diaper change and will wrap up in time to check out other activates around town, like Earth Day at Morgan’s Grove Park.

“It’s a very fun and eventful day in town,” she said.

The great cloth diaper change is held to raise awareness about cloth diapering in the modern world and to build community and relationships.

“It’s a really good way to find other cloth diapering parents and share information,” Fritz said.

A baby wearing demo, “dancing for birth” demo, and local midwives from Birthroot midwifery are featured parts of the day.

Fritz said 17 pre-registration spots are still open. And spots are expected to fill up on the event day, so come early.

Organizers are also still looking for official witnesses to watch the event as part of the Guinness Record setting requirements. Anyone can serve as a witness.
